Fünf alte Freunde, deren Namen sämtlich in die Grundpfeiler der Melodic Death Metal-Walhalla eingeritzt sind, alle miteinander Pioniere und stilprägende Legenden des Gothenburg Metals haben im Jahr der Corona-Pandemie, als die Welt zum Stillstand gezwungen war, endlich eine alte Idee in die Tat umgesetzt. Das Ergebnis ist eine brandneue Band, THE HALO EFFECT, die sofort einen Vertrag mit Nuclear Blast unterschrieben hat, und 2022 mit den schwedischen Death-Metal-Berserkern AMON AMARTH und den US-Thrashern MACHINE HEAD auf Europatour gehen werden, sieben deutsche Dates sind dabei bestätigt. Das Debütalbum ist ebenfalls für nächstes Jahr geplant.
Die Besetzung liest sich wie ein Traum: Jesper Strömblad (git.) ist jedem als Bandgründer von IN FLAMES bekannt, Niclas Engelin (git.) als langjähriger Saitenhexer genauso wie Bassist Peter Iwers und Schlagzeuger Daniel Svensson; mit an Bord ist ausserdem als Sänger und Texter DARK TRANQUILLITYs Mikael Stanne, der unter anderem schon dem IF-Debüt ´Lunar Strain´ seine tiefen Growls verlieh.
Der Gedanke hinter THE HALO EFFECT war, wieder zurück zu den Ursprüngen des klassischen Göteborg-Metals zu gehen, für den AT THE GATES, DARK TRANQUILLITY und eben vor allem IN FLAMES stehen, und genau das ist der Band gelungen. Ihre neue Interpretation davon wird alle Fans des klassischen Melodeath-Sounds begeistern!
Mit der Debütsingle ‚Shadowminds‘, zu der auch ein dystopisches Musikvideo gedreht wurde, gibt die Band Metal-Fans auf der ganzen Welt einen Vorgeschmack auf ihren Sound. Die düstere Atmosphäre, die melodischen Riffs und der raue Gesang sind ein perfektes Beispiel dafür, was THE HALO EFFECT ausmacht.

We felt strongly that this was the right direction for the band. Finding identity, finding a drive and passion is what the song is about and also what this band is about. What drove us to do this in the first place, what obstacles have we overcome in order to fully commit to this lifestyle? It’s about how easy it is to get lost if you lose focus and passion for what you do.
With the video we wanted to convey the emptiness of the city in the early stages of the pandemic and what we saw outside of the studio as we were writing but we also love the cool dystopic imagery so we made the city look even more barren and destroyed. Enjoy!“
